A locally owned and operated tanning salon celebrates seven years of business
Dreams, ambition and innovative ideas are the mantra behind every successful business, and this rings especially true for business owner Rachel Ballman. Armed with a business plan at only 18 years old, Ballman, Owner of Bronze Baxx Tanning Studios, took her dream and materialized it into a thriving brand and growing business. From opening her first studio in the ultra-stylish and affluent neighbourhood of Mission Calgary, to opening her fourth location in Airdrie, Alberta; Ballman says Bronze Baxx is exactly what she envisioned it would be six years ago — a luxury tanning studio passionate about its industry and its clientele.
“I wanted Bronze Baxx to be different. I wanted customers to walk in and be swept away by the sophistication of our beds, the level of knowledge of our consultants and the overall look and feel of our salons,” says Ballman; and she has accomplished just that, as her salons offer clientele five levels of UV tanning beds and one of the most popular, professionally applied airbrush spray tans around. “We are not your average, every day tanning salon.”
Ballman was inspired to open her own salon when she was just a teenager living in Winnipeg. “I just fell in love with tanning and the whole atmosphere of it; clients always seemed to be happy when they tanned! I even cut my university career short because I was so anxious to open Bronze Baxx,” admits Ballman.
Bronze Baxx has now grown into a flourishing business with a reputation as of one of the highest-end tanning salons in the Calgary area. The addition of their fourth studio in Airdrie is a testament to Ballman’s vision and the success of her studios— somehow she’s managed to make the tanning business look easy.
Getting Bronze Baxx to this level hasn’t always been sunshine for this savvy entrepreneur, and Regional Manager Kelsey Perry can attest to the challenges Bronze Baxx faced when it went from a small start-up to a thriving business. “I was one of Rachel’s first real employees, and there was a point when she couldn’t even afford to keep me on; she was virtually making the decision whether to pay her electricity bill or her car payment,” says Perry.
Since opening her first store in Mission in 2007, Ballman has managed to open three subsequent salons, and she credits her success to the sheer passion she and her staff have for tanning. “I think people gravitate to Bronze Baxx because they recognize there is something different about our salons and how we approach tanning,” adds Ballman.
On October 22, 2014, Bronze Baxx will be celebrating its 7th year as a locally owned and operated business. Ballman invites clients, friends and its many followers to join the celebration at its downtown studio located at #4-2015 4th Street SW from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for exclusive deals, spin to win and a chance to win the grand prize draw worth $200. “We are so happy to be a part of this community; and we plan to continue to grow and offer the wonderful people of this great city industry leading tanning services,” says Ballman.
