SUNBEDS & BOOTHS

Is UV tanning bad for you?

At Bronze Baxx, all of our tanning products are regulated and certified by Health Canada. And while it is recommended to avoid overexposure to UV rays, studies have also found positive health benefits from UV tanning, including the production of Vitamin D, avoiding sunburns and an improvement in mood.

How old do you need to be to use a tanning bed?

You must be at least 18 years of age to use any of the tanning beds available at Bronze Baxx. Spray tans are recommended for guests under 18 years of age.

How long should I start tanning before going on vacation?

We recommend that you begin tanning at least 3 to 6 weeks before leaving on a trip where you’re likely to spend a great deal of time in the sun. This may require 2 to 3 sessions per week, allowing you to get the best results and build up a base tan.

How long will it take to see results?

Most of our customers will see great results from UV tanning after 2 to 3 sessions. Your Bronze Baxx UV tanning expert can help you determine which tanning bed and time period is best for you.

How long will my UV tan last for?

Depending on your skin type and the tanning bed option you choose, most UV tans last 3 weeks to a month if you use a post-tan extender lotion.

How long can I tan for?

This depends on the type of tanning bed you’ve selected and what results you’re hoping to achieve. In most cases, we recommend between 4 to 12 minutes per tanning session. Your Smart Tan® certified Bronze Baxx technician will be able to help you determine how long your session should last.

Why should I use a tanning lotion?

A tanning lotion will ensure that you get the best results from your tan. We recommend using one of our professional salon-caliber indoor tanning lotions rather than purchasing your own online or from other retailers. That’s because there are many lotions on the market that may contain sub-par ingredients that could damage your tan. SPF’s are not to be used in the tanning beds.

Why do I have to wear eyewear in the tanning beds?

While UVA and UVB rays allow your skin to develop a beautiful tan, these same rays can be harmful to the human eye. That’s why wearing UV protective eyewear is mandatory at Bronze Baxx, with eyewear available to purchase for a small fee.

How long after my UV tan can I shower?

You can shower anytime after getting a UV tan. While a shower may wash away any moisturizers or tan extender lotions you may have on, showering will not affect your underlying UV tan.

How can I make my UV tan last longer?

We recommend using a tan extender lotion. Our Smart Tan® certified staff can help you find a salon-quality extender to ensure that your tan lasts as long as possible.

Can I get a UV tan if I have a sunburn?

We do not recommend getting a UV tan if you have a sunburn. Speak with your Bronze Baxx tanning professional if you have any concerns.

What is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?

Natural sunlight and the light produced by our tanning beds consists of two forms of ultraviolet (UV) rays: UVA (which appear longer on the light spectrum) and UVB (which appear as short wave rays). UVA is the dominant tanning ray that produces dark, golden tans. Sunburns and reddened skin, on the other hand, are primarily due to UVB rays. Our tanning beds are optimized using technology to enhance the effects of UVA rays and minimize UVB exposure.

How often can I tan?

It is suggested that you wait 36 to 48 hours between visits to allow your tan to fully develop. You will, however, notice that your tan will begin to fade over time. If you’re first developing a tan, you may want to gradually increase your indoor tanning time to 2 to 3 sessions a week. Once you have a tan, you can maintain it by tanning 1 to 2 times a week. Be sure to speak with a Bronze Baxx tanning technician to find out how many sessions are right for you.

SPRAY TANNING

Will I turn orange from my spray tan?

The days of orange and unnatural looking spray tans are mostly a thing of the past, thanks to advances in spray tanning technology. In most cases, “orange” spray tans are the results of applying too much spray or using a sub-par spray solution. Our highly trained spray tan technicians can help ensure this doesn’t happen, and help you find the right colour to match your skin tone and desired look.

Do you apply your spray tan in a booth?

No. At Bronze Baxx, we don’t use any spray tan booths, as these tend to provide uneven and unnatural looking results. Instead, all of our spray tans are applied by hand using our signature airbrush technique from our highly trained and Smart Tan® certified technicians.

What should I wear during my visit?

It depends on your comfort level. For best results, we do recommend that women go naked to avoid any tan lines. However, if you’d prefer you can wear underwear or a bathing suit that our technician can work around. For male clients, we ask that underwear or a bathing suit is worn at all times during the spray tan session (we can also provide disposable underwear for your convenience). Please note that any clothing you do wear will likely come into contact with our spray formula, which does not stain and is completely washable.

How should I prepare for my spray tan?

We recommend that on the night before your visit you thoroughly shower, shave and exfoliate your skin. On the day of your tan, be sure not to apply any lotions, deodorant, makeup or perfumes. You should also dress for the weather and bring a change of dark, loose clothing.

How long will my spray tan last for?

If properly cared for using a professional tan extender lotion, most spray tans can last 7 to 10 days.

Is my spray tan the final colour or will it change over time?

In most cases your spray tan will appear darker as it first begins to set. After showering, it will lighten slightly to the final colour. In the case of our Express Spray Tans, you will not see your final colour results immediately after you shower. Instead, the colour will continue to develop up to 8 hours after your Express Tan.

When can I have a shower after my spray tan?

Depending on the type of spray tan you’ve chosen, you will need to wait 90 minutes to 8 hours before showering. You may also notice that some of the colour washes off in the shower. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Be sure to gently wash your skin and to pat yourself dry to avoid removing any of your new tan. Speak with your Bronze Baxx spray tan technician to find out when you should shower after your tan.

What colour of spray tan should I get?

There are numerous shades available to meet your skin tone and the look you’re going for. Be sure to speak with your Bronze Baxx Smart Tan® certified professional, as they can help you find the right colour, customized for you.

Will my spray tan rub off on my clothing?

In some cases after a tan your spray tan may rub off on your clothing. This is normal. The spray tan solution is washable and should not stain your clothing.

Can I still suntan with a spray tan?

Yes, you can still tan after a spray tan. However, it’s important to note that your spray tan won’t protect you from UV rays. It may, however, give you a base to work from, as your natural colour will come through as your spray tan begins to fade. It’s recommended that you continue to follow safety guidelines for UV protection while outdoors.

Which option is darker/better: Express or Baxx to Baxx?

Both options are great, but the choice comes down to what you’re looking to achieve and how long you want to wait until your first shower. An Express Tan gives you the convenience of showering in as little as 90 minutes, with the darkness of your tan determined by how long you choose to wait to wash. The Baxx to Baxx tan offers a wider range of shades than the Express Tan, but you will have to wait 8 hours to shower.

Is coconut butter/oil a good tan extender?

While coconut oil is a great moisturizer, it does not contain tan extending ingredients that help prolong and preserve your tan.

Can I get a spray tan done if I've just had my eyelashes done or had an eyebrow, leg or bikini wax?

Bronze Baxx uses an oil-free solution, so getting a spray is not an issue if you do have eyelash extensions. If you’ve recently had an eyebrow, leg or bikini wax, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours and being freshly showered before your appointment. This allows your skin the time it needs to heal properly. Never wax after a spray tan has been applied as this will remove the tan.

How long before an event should I get my spray tan?

We recommend that you get your spray tan 1 to 2 days before an event in order to give the tan time to reach its ideal colour.

Cellulite is a structural skin change that occurs in most post-pubertal females. Regardless of whether they are thin or overweight. Some common factors of cellulite are:

  • Lack of exercise

How does VelaShape® III get rid of cellulite?

What is the difference between VelaShape® III and skin tightening wraps/creams?

Collagen is scientifically proven to be produced at 40 Degrees Celsius. VelaShape® III machines use a combination of infrared and bi-polar energy to achieve this level of heat. The benefits of these combined technologies will shrink fat cells and produce new collagen. Creams are great for hydration and wraps are beneficial for detoxification. VelaShape® III is considered gold standard for body contouring because of it’s ability to reach 40 Degrees Celsius quickly and to sustain that heat for the duration of your treatment.
